Rules

Swap organiser rules.

This tool helps Royal Road authors manage shoutout swaps. Only offer swaps you can honour, keep your dates clear, and communicate if something changes.

Main rule

Be reliable and clear.

A slot means you are willing to post another author’s shoutout on that date. An accepted request is a commitment between both authors.

Before requesting

Check before you send.

Before requesting a swap, check the other author’s story, the date, and the shoutout code. Only send the request if you are happy to post it and you can honour your side of the swap.

Repeated missed swaps or poor behaviour may be reviewed by admins.
How it works

The basic workflow.

1
Add your story. Save your Royal Road story details and shoutout code.
2
Create a slot. Choose a date when you can post someone else’s shoutout.
3
Find a swap. Browse open slots and request a swap using one of your own open dates.
4
Wait for a response. The other author can accept or decline. Nothing is confirmed until the request is accepted.
5
Post the shoutout. Once the agreed date arrives, post the correct code and mark your side complete.
Good swap behaviour

What authors should do.

Only create slots you can honour.

Do not create a slot unless you expect to be able to post a shoutout on that date.

Check the other story first.

Make sure you are comfortable shouting out the other author’s work before requesting a swap.

Respond to requests promptly.

Accept, decline, or message the other author if you need more information.

Use the agreed code.

Copy the shoutout code from your confirmed swap and post it on the agreed date.

Communicate if something changes.

If you cannot complete a swap, message the other author as soon as possible.

Use complaints only for real problems.

Complaints are for missed swaps, or poor behaviour. Do not complain just because someone declined a request.

Status guide

What each status means.

Open

Open slot

The slot is available for someone to request.

Pending

Pending request

A request has been sent, but it has not been accepted or declined yet.

Accepted

Accepted swap

Both authors have agreed to the swap. This is now a commitment.

Completed

Completed swap

The swap has been carried out and marked complete.

Declined

Declined request

The author chose not to accept the request. This is not a penalty.

Cancelled

Cancelled swap

The swap was called off before completion.

Missed

Missed swap

A swap was not honoured. Missed swaps may affect reliability.

Reliable

Reliability score

Reliability is based on completed swaps compared with missed swaps.

Admins may review complaints, missed swaps, bug reports, and repeated reliability issues to keep the organiser fair and useful.
